Description & Applications

Applications

Widely used in Chemical process equipment, crude oil stills, gasoline and fresh water tanks, marine engineering equipment, valves, pumps and fasteners.

Characteristics of Monel 400 (UNS N04400)

Monel 400 has excellent resistance to corrosion by many reducing media such as sulfuric and hydrochloric acids. It is generally more resistant to corrosion by oxidizing media than higher copper alloys. Monel 400 resists pitting and stress corrosion cracking in most fresh and industrial waters. It has good resistance in flowing seawater, but under stagnant conditions, pitting and crevice corrosion is induced.

Monel 400 is probably the most resistant to hydrofluoric acid in all concentrations up to the boiling point, of all engineering alloys. It is notable for its toughness and does not show embrittlement tendency at cryogenic temperatures. It is work hardenable.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main advantages of UNS N04400 clad pipes?
UNS N04400 (Monel 400) offers exceptional corrosion resistance to reducing media like sulfuric and hydrochloric acids, making it ideal for harsh chemical and marine environments.
How is the bonding between the nickel alloy and the base metal achieved?
The pipes utilize explosion bonding technology to ensure a high-strength metallurgical bond between the UNS N04400 alloy and the pressure vessel steel (like SA516GR.70).
Is this product suitable for cryogenic applications?
Yes, Monel 400 is notable for its toughness and does not show embrittlement tendencies at cryogenic temperatures, making it reliable for low-temperature piping.
What welding technique is used for the production of these pipes?
The production process typically employs GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) to ensure high-quality, precise joints suitable for pressure vessel requirements.
What standards do these clad pipes comply with?
These pipes are manufactured to comply with major international standards, including ASTM, GB, API, DIN, and JIS, with certifications like EN10204 3.1 and 3.2 available.
In which industries are these pipes most commonly used?
They are predominantly used in chemical processing, marine engineering, crude oil distillation, and for the manufacturing of pressure vessel components like tanks and pumps.
